“Fragments of Bliss” Water-soluble oil paint, acrylic, and oil pastel on stretched cotton
Fragments of Bliss is a small painting that carries expansive meaning. The landscape holds layers of memory, growth, and metaphor. In the middle ground, vivid orange flowers bloom from memory; once upon a time they were planted along the back of my Nana and Papa’s farm. These blossoms open by day, close by night, and follow the sun, symbolizing vitality, hope, and our natural pull toward light. In the foreground, lavender partially oveerlaps them, introducing a dialogue between pursuit and surrender. Lavender, often linked with rest and calm, overlays the energetic, sun-seeking blooms, suggesting that bliss is not only found in reaching for the light but also in allowing space for stillness. This interplay reflects the complexity of being human: our desire to grow, our need to rest, and the beauty that emerges when both coexist. Fragments of Bliss reminds us that joy often arrives in layers, in fragments, and in the balance of opposites.
